Amazonas Park

An unexpected find for families on an island largely dedicated to sun worship and ancient ruins, Amazonas Park is located along a scenic drive through olive fields and arid limestone foothills near Kourounes.

It is a small, privately funded animal reserve dedicated to conservation of endangered wildlife, with enclosures carefully designed on eco-friendly lines and thatched shelters providing the animals with shade from the sun.

Goats, tortoises, monkeys and lemurs compete for attention with gaily colored parrots and macaws, toucans and peacocks; the sanctuary also has a small adventure playground for kids, an aviary full of chirping budgies and even a cute little donkey for toddlers to pat.

The Aquarium of Crete is part of THALASSOKOSMOS (the building complex of HCMR in Heraklion, Crete), the largest complex for marine research, technology and entertainment in the Mediterranean area, that has established its function and its development of scientific knowledge and discoveries in Marine Science and wants to:

- Be a medium of promoting and popularizing knowledge and innovation generated by the HCMR and the global marine research industry, namely the future of human relations with the sea.

- Offer a unique spectacle that will always fascinate children and adults and to inform, educate and raise the awareness of the public on the diversity of Mediterranean fish species and habitats by visualising the Mediterranean sea life using modern ways and equipment.

- Discover, admire, experience and initiate actions on maritime issues for the decades to come together with the visitor.

- Enhance the eternal relationship between humans and the Mediterranean sea environment and to create incentives and raise questions on the protection and sustainable management of the Mediterranean sea ecosystem.

- Set its individual identity so that it distinguishes from other aquariums, to become unique among the destination options in Crete and to become an alternative entertainment option.

- Be part of the continues research on the behaviour and welfare of sea species that can be adapted in controlled conditions, to have a modern research infrastructure and to ensure excellent access conditions to researchers and young scientists, to be an incubator of innovation.

- Refinance its actions and activities.

Dinosauria Park

The Dinosauria Park started as an idea in 2013 and was first housed in GOURNES ΔΕΚΚ, located in the former American Base. There were hosted 30 different dinosaur species from all periods of the Mesozoic era and other prehistoric animals.

In 2014 the exhibits were transferred to their own space, following intensive efforts to be found in their natural environment and to "revive"! In the large family of dinosaurs new species were added and new sections, such as dinosaurs General Hospital, where young and old fans of dinosaurs can see a dinosaur hatches and begins his life in the park.

In the space for creative activities, all become children again, trying to find as many dinosaurs may in tidal area, and playing various "dinosaur games" made in space. For the visitors there is the opportunity to watch themed films released in 5D and 7D Cinema.

Finally the visitor can enjoy tasty delicacies in Dino Snack Bar where a certified Playground by TUV organisation Hellas and enjoy endless hours of fun and pleasure. Don’t forget to get your dino souvenirs and gifts to retain the memories of this unique experience until the next visit.

These marvelous myths have stood the test of time and have rightly been retold for thousands of years. They are an indelible, indispensable, inescapable part of our cultural background and heritage. Yet their origins are extremely diverse and developed in a wide variety of different ways and in response to a great many different social, political and psychological needs. They provide us with insights into human nature true as much today as they were 3000 years ago!

Most myths have a kernel of truth to them….it is up to us to find it. Truths hidden deep within a labyrinth of fantasy, fact and fiction!
