Douloufakis Wine Taste Tour

Douloufakis winery is located in Crete, the largest island of Greece. Our island has a long and continuous history in wine growing and wine production, which begins 4000 years ago.

Our winery and vineyards are in the heart of the vine area of Dafnes, a village for which there are historical references for the production of the famous Malvasia wine.

As for the weather conditions in Crete, the dry climate does not allow many diseases in vines and makes it easy for us to produce a quality product not burdened with pesticides.

Most Cretan grape varieties are white. Vidiano is a full body variety that gives very nice fresh wines. White varieties include Vilana, Malvasia and Muscat.

There are only three indigenous red grape varieties: Liatiko, Kotsifali and Mantilari. Liatiko is mainly grown in our region and is characterized as "Protected Designation of Origin - Dafnes". It is an interesting and stylish red variety that surprises with its diversity.

Kotsifali is usually vinified in blends with Syrah. We have also chosen to grow some international varieties such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, varieties that have been fully acclimated to our region and give us very good wines.

Our privately owned vineyards are situated on hill slopes at an altitude of 350 meters and the cultivation is done both by hand and mechanical means. They cover 20 hectares and are located within the vine region of Dafnes, on the island of Crete in Greece.

Apart from the privately owned vineyards, grapes are sourced from farmers in our area, with whom we have a long and stable partnership. Those vineyards cover 25 hectares and are under our supervision in order to get excellent quality grapes.

At the winery we produce and bottle our wines using of state-of-the-art technology and suitably trained stuff. We produce 16 labels, mainly dry wines, but also medium-sweet, natural sweet and sparkling wine.

Some of the wines that we bottle are:

• The "Enotria" range, in white, rosé and red wine, a series of blends made from local and international varieties.
• The "Dafnios" range, in white and red, single varietal wines from Vidiano and Liatiko, respectively.
• The "Alargo" range, inn white and red, single varietal wines from Assyrtiko and Syrah, respectively.
• The "White Hare" range - white and red, also single varietal wines, Vidiano and Cabernet Sauvignon, respectively.

Douloufakis Cretan wines have been awarded medals at some of the most important International Wine Competitions, like Decanter in the U.K., TEXSOM International Wine Awards in the U.S.A. or Sakura in Japan.

Furthermore, some well-known wine websites usually rate our wines up to 91/100, like Robert Parker's American site. Famous wine journalists have drawn attention to the exceptional character of Cretan wines, like the British Andrew Jefford and the American Mark Squires.
