Take a hiking trip through the Samaria Gorge and enjoy a unique experience! 

The Samaria Gorge is one of Europe’s largest and most famous gorges, with imposing landscapes of wild beauty. The descent from Xyloskalo, the entrance of the gorge, to Agia Roumeli takes about six hours, depending on your pace, and is moderate in difficulty. Hear you will find the Cretan goat Kri-Kri, as well as many other endemic species of animals and plants. 

The village of Samaria lies just inside the gorge, in the middle of nowhere. It was finally abandoned by the last remaining inhabitants in 1962 to make way for the park. The village and the gorge take their names from the village's ancient church, Osia Maria ("Saint Mary").
